Director of Training and Groupwork
The Director of the Training Groupwork team provides violence against women training and awareness courses or sessions to organisations and groups. She is able to deliver training packages designed specifically for an individual group’s needs, at both an introductory and advanced level. As violence against women is a complex issue, the Training Co-ordinator is able to provide training which reflects this, covering a wide range of topics, such as:
- Housing and legal issues and processes
- Violence against women and substance misuse
- Women abused through prostitution
- Women with no recourse to public funds
- LGBT domestic violence
- The impact of domestic violence on children
The Director of the Training and Group Work team also co-facilitates the work carried out with women in prisons.
As well as managing the nia project Training and Groupwork team, the Director works alongside the other trainers in developing and delivering training to professionals and the community about Domestic Violence, sexual violence, substance misuse, and related issues. She is also available to speak at conferences and other events, as well as lecturing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Group and Outreach Worker (Working with BMER women and communities)
This post works with refugee and BMER women, organisations and communities to raise awareness and provide training around violence against women. The post-holder will work with groups and communities to enable them to enhance their capacity to respond safely and appropriately to violence against women within the complex, difficult context of women with no recourse to public funds and the all too common myths and stereotypes surrounding people living as refugees and asylum seekers.
She also provides training to non-BMER organisations about the specific issues facing BMER women and women living as refugees and asylum seekers who are experiencing violence against women.
Group and Outreach Worker
The Group and Outreach Worker works with women in the community, as well as women living in the nia project’s six refuges, to facilitate support groups (English, Turkish, and Vietnamese speaking) for women who are experiencing, or have experienced, gender violence. She also provides workshops, as well as personal development courses for women living in the refuges.
The group and Outreach Worker is also involved in training and awareness-raising for organisations (both statutory and voluntary sector) and communities on all issues related to violence against women, and co-facilitates the work with women in prison.
