Supporting Young People

Safe Choices

Safe Choices aims to reduce and prevent violent offending by young women.

Safe Choices is a unique service which reduces and prevents young women’s violent offending by considering the context of this behaviour. We offer young women group work programmes and intensive 1:1 support that focuses on developing resilience as well as positive support networks and challenging patterns of offending behaviour.

Because we recognise that part of the context of young women’s offending is their relationship with young men, we also offer group work that challenges young men’s behaviour and attitudes towards young women, specifically challenging sexual violence and sexual exploitation within the context of group and gang offending.

Safe Choices currently operates in Hackney, Haringey, Greenwich, Lewisham and Islington.

We also offer:
• Training including multi-agency awareness-raising, skills training and bespoke courses
• Consultancy to enable agencies to map service needs and plan localised service responses

Safe Choices is funded by the DCSF Youth Sector Development Fund. Safe Choices is delivered in partnership with The Children’s Society.

Prevention

We offer prevention work for young people aged 10-21 years in schools, pupil referral units, youth groups and other settings.

This work challenges sexual bullying, sexual violence and sexual exploitation, enabling young people to develop safe, healthy and consensual relationships. These sessions also support young people to challenge gender stereotypes and understand boundaries. School based sessions work within the PSHE and Sex and Relationships Education curricula.

In addition, we offer training to professionals on sexual violence and exploitation, enabling them to address these issues effectively with young people and to deal with disclosures.

We also offer awareness-raising work for parents and carers. These sessions provide information on how to talk to children about keeping safe, and how to seek help if your child has been affected in any way by these issues.

This work is funded by Comic Relief and The City Bridge Trust.
